25 miles from shore (E1)

E1 is an ocean monitoring station located 25 miles offshore from Plymouth, where oceanographic conditions on the open shelf have been monitored by marine scientists in Plymouth for over a century

A scientific buoy is operated at the station by Plymouth Marine Laboratory which is equipped with an array of sensors to autonomously measure a suite of marine and atmospheric parameters every hour. This information then feeds into the models on which MyCoast is based. See the Western Channel Observatory website for further details.

The table below summarises our forecasts of today’s and tomorrow’s surface ocean and atmospheric conditions.

Line plots

Line plots show the tidal height, water speed and direction for yesterday, today and tomorrow. Hover your mouse over the lines to see the heights at specific times.

Contour plots

Contour plots show how the water speed, temperature and salinity vary with depth over a 72 hour period.
