10 miles from shore (L4)

L4 is an ocean monitoring station located 10 miles from Plymouth and represents deep coastal conditions near Plymouth.

A scientific buoy is operated at the station by Plymouth Marine Laboratory which is equipped with an array of sensors to autonomously measure a suite of marine and atmospheric parameters every hour. This information then feeds into the models on which MyCoast is based. See the Western Channel Observatory website for further details.

The table below summarises our forecasts of today’s and tomorrow’s surface ocean and atmospheric conditions.
