Whitsand bay

Whitsand Bay is a 3-mile long sandy beach stretching from Rame Head in the southwestern corner of Plymouth Sound to Portwrinkle in southeast Cornwall. It is popular for recreational activities, and offshore from the beach is an artificial reef dive site, but strong currents in the area can potentially make it dangerous for swimming.

The table below summarises our forecasts of today’s and tomorrow’s surface ocean and atmospheric conditions.

Animations

Animations show the changes in surface salinity and temperature over a 72 hour period. Lower salinity waters entering from the estuaries and the effects of tides can clearly be seen.
